Movie Previews

What the heck is wrong with movie previews these days. They slowly show more and more of the movie before we even get to see it. Sometimes I see the preview and go "well that was a nice movie!" Alfred Hitchcock was famous for having previews for his movie where he just appeared before the screen and tell the gist of the upcoming movie. He would even tell everyone not to talk about certain movies so not to spoil it for others. Now we have specials on TV where they show enough clips of the movie to cover half of it. I understand the need to promote the movie but what really are we paying the 7 dollars for? It seems like more and more these days we are paying for these previews before the movie we have already seen.

The Masks We Wear

I got on the internet and my homepage is set to yahoo.com. They usually have four main headlines listed with pictures at the top of the page. Usually there is one useful headline and three pointless ones. But I found one that turned out to be awesome. It led me to Myheritage.com, where you can upload a picture and it will tell you what celebrity you look most like. I only had one picture of myself and the top person that resembled my was the president of Russia... Not Rasputin! My sister on the other hand had a battled of pictures of herself (go figure?). It turned out to really depend on the picture itself. Sometimes her closest celebrity was a woman other times it was a man. I really liked it a lot.

To Eyre is human...

While I was over at my sibling's house (because she is scared to be alone at night). I was very bored and my sister suggested that I read something. She had a copy of Jane Eyre and I decided to read that again. I just got to the part where Jane chews-out Mrs. Reed to the point where Mrs. Reed is utterly unable to do anything but mumble incomplete sentences... I love this book so much!

Colbert Interviews Eleanor Holmes Norton

This is just hilarious!!!

Dead Man's Chest

Sequels have a reputation for never living up to the original. But I was very pleased with Dead Man's Chest. Many critics found it to be lacking because of a few things, like how the Jack Sparrow character wasn't new or how long the movie was. I wonder what they were expecting when they went to this movie, cause it was exactly what I expected. Swashbuckling fun and constant hilarious chaos and confusion. I wouldn't say it was as great as the original but I think it came pretty close.

Superman Returns

I thought that this movie was excellent. The actors they cast looked similar and were good at their profession. I thought that the actor that plays Superman did a great job at mimicking Christopher Reeves portrayal of Clark Kent. He had the same mannerisms and nervous habits. There were a lot of explosions and fighting and kryptonite. I would give it a 10 out of 10.

The Immigration Debate

Ok I think this video does a good job of putting the current immigration debate into perspective. My opinion is that I don't have one because I don't fully understand all of the parameters invovled in the debate. So my official opinion is that I don't have one... Enjoy!

Snakes On A Plane

There is a new movie coming out called Snakes on a Plane. The title is so ridiculous and funny that people couldn't wait for the official trailers to come out so they started making their own. Here is a really good one.

Quote

When I was watching Ed, Edd, and Eddy (YES I WAS WATCHING THAT SO WHAT?), Ed had just been trampled by a bunch of other kids. When he stands up all battered and bruised he exclaims, "I feel like a door matt, this must be love". I don't know why but I just thought that was great.

Evils Purest Form

I just saw the end of a Futurama, where an evil scientist is making a solution in a beaker. He holds it up and exclaims, "By combining the DNA of the most evil animals, I will create the most evil creature ever!" Then he pours the contents of the beaker into a machine. A lot of bells and whistle go off as smoke fills the room. The doors to the machine open and a naked person steps out and says, "Guess what it's MAN!" LOL I love that...

Soldiers Refusing to Fight

By Peter Graff
ALDERSHOT (Reuters) - An Air Force doctor was sentenced to eight months jail on Thursday for refusing orders to go to Iraq.
Australian-born Flight-Lieutenant Malcolm Kendall-Smith, 37, was convicted by a five-member panel of officers of what the judge called "calculated and deliberate disobedience" of five orders to train, prepare and deploy to Iraq last year.
Kendall-Smith said he viewed the war as a crime and could not participate in any form.
But judge Jack Bayliss ruled British troops were in Iraq in 2005 with the permission of the United Nations, and that Kendall-Smith's view of the war's legality was no defence.
"Obedience to orders is at the heart of any disciplined force. Refusal to obey orders means that force is not a disciplined force but a rabble," he said.
"Those who wear the queen's uniform cannot pick and choose the orders they follow."
His lawyer, Philip Sapsford, described him as a "man of great moral courage" who had taken his step out of principle.
But Bayliss said Kendall-Smith had had the opportunity to resign from the military earlier if he opposed the war.
"If they disagree with the moral position of the government, the recourse of an officer in a volunteer service is to do the honourable thing and to request to resign and to give his reasons," he said.
"You didn't ask to resign. You continued to draw your not-inconsiderable salary."
During the tense two-day court martial, on a base in southern England, Kendall-Smith, who has dual British-New Zealand citizenship, testified on his own behalf. He was the only witness to be called.
In frequently abrasive exchanges from the witness stand, he described the United States as the moral equivalent of Nazi Germany, and the prosecutors themselves as complicit in crimes.
As an officer, he must serve his prison term in a civilian jail. He was also expelled from the Air Force and ordered to pay 20,000 pounds towards the cost of his defence.
In passing down his sentence, the judge said Kendall-Smith's own testimony had hurt his case.
"You have in the view of this court sought to make a martyr of yourself," he said. "You have shown a degree of arrogance which is amazing."
The case was the first of its kind in Britain, with war opponents viewing it as a landmark test of whether the decision to invade Iraq in 2003 was lawful.
But Bayliss ruled before the trial began that the question of the legality of the invasion itself was irrelevant, and that British troops had a right to be in Iraq in 2005 under U.N. resolutions passed after the fall of Saddam Hussein.
Defence lawyer Justin Hugheston-Roberts issued a statement after the verdict, saying Kendall-Smith would appeal.
"He feels that his actions were totally justified and he would not, if placed in the same circumstances, seek to do anything differently," he added.

First of all I agree with this man that going to Iraq to fight is not a good thing and that the war in itself is a big mistake. But I do not see why he continued to stay in the Airforce once he recieved orders he did not want to comply with. That would be like not wanting to complete a project at any other job so you just don't show up for work. That I believe was wrong. But I do not believe this man should be jailed over this. Thats just overkill. He should be expelled from the Airforce but not jailed. If you didn't show up for work you wouldn't be thrown in jail, you would just be fired. If I was this man and the Airforce decided to send me to Iraq I would have left the Airforce not stayed around and just not gone.
Thought I do admit my ignorance on not knowing the policies in place on leaving a military organization after recieving orders. But if their was anyway for that man to have left he should have instead of staying.

Spirit

The darkness which tears at my soul, like a carrion pecks at a the flesh.
The evil that strips away all that is, and leaves nothing but emptiness.
The light which shines forth from the wounds, healing and fending off that which destroys.
The good that hardens over the scars of my battles, creating peace and love.

Evolution

I am a student of science and a child of God. When I learned about evolution I was not aware that people used it to disprove Gods hand in creation. I looked at evolution and thought how even more amazing God's creation was. Why is it that Christians insist on rejecting any scientific discovery that doesn't exactly fit their idea of what should be. I think that the fault lies in many Christians belief that the Bible should always be taken literally and that the Bible is perfect. What Christians forget is that while yes the Bible is the inspired word of God it was in fact written by man and man is not perfect as is God. Many Christians do not accept the world around them as God created it. They believe God must had placed the bones of the dinosaurs into the ground.
I could probably go on for a long time on this but one thing, and only one thing, is important. That you believe Jesus Christ is your lord and savior and that God is in control. Anything past that is just fun and folly.

God and Satan

In the Bible God/Jesus is described as a light or beacon onto the world. I don't know why but I always like to think of religious things in a scientific way. Here is my thoughts on God and Satan in terms of Light.

if God = Light, Satan = Darkness
and Darkness = Absence of Light
then Satan = Absence of God
if God = Strength
and Weakness = Absence of Strength
then Satan = Weakness
